Flying | Target Shooting |Adventure Training | Projects | Sports Here is a list of activities that we perform within the ATC. If you would like information on an individual sport, click on its name or the target to link to that part of the page. AthleticsIn the ATC there are many social activities one of which is Wing athletics. It is where there are about 1000 cadets all get together and compete against each other to achieve what is known as a Wing Blue which is basically a badge to show you excel in some kind of sport. There are several sports that take place on this day, i.e. track and field events. To come first or second in an event on this day earns you a place in the Wing athletics team. If you then proceed to come first or second in these then you are promoted to the regional team. Once in the regional team, you are immediately entitled to the honour of a Regional Blue. It is a great day and you get the opportunity to meet and socialize with cadets from other squadrons, make new friends and have a good time . . . and this is what the ATC is all about! SwimmingThe ATC swimming championship takes place annually and is ran at Wing level, moving through regional level to corps level. This again is a competitive event between squadrons and promotes team spirit. FootballFootball in the ATC is only for the male cadets. This is a day full of tension and shock; tension is when you play as good as you are physically able. Shock is when you are asked to give your name to the officer in charge, but don't worry, he's just noticed that you obviously pretty good at this sport and you are a valid asset to the ATC. NetballThis is where the female cadets get a chance to get there own back as this is a female only sport, so there is a lot of skill involved. It is a great team-building sport, and with discipline and practice can become a fast and furious team event . . . An essential sport to an organization such as the ATC HockeyThe ATC holds inter-wing competitions for male and female hockey, this is a great way of using up any excess energy and having fun but there is an element of competition involved as well. Cross CountryThis is a unisex event, this is ideal for people who like to get covered in mud have good stamina and enjoy meeting people. It starts around 9:30 in the morning and it depends on the cadets ability to be active in the cold. RugbyRugby is also a single sex game; yes lads this is just for you. Don't worry though the age groups vary so you don't have to worry about getting hurt by someone twice your height, unless they are in your age group. Other sportsThere are other sports that cadets can take part in as a group activity or individually within the squadron. Our squadron does do regular sports sessions to promote fitness and team work, these include softball, football and Duke of Edinburgh fitness sessions.
