Target Shooting and Weapons Handling

All shooting activities within the Air Training Corps are conducted in a controlled environment by fully qualified staff.

When a new cadet joins the ATC they go through training on how to operate a weapon in a safe controlled environment. All cadets doing there First Class Cadet training will have class room based training on the Rifle, followed by practical dry training.  Cadets are taught how to use and handle the weapons by a qualified member of staff and an assessment made before they can shoot live ammunition on the range.

When the assessment has been completed to the required standard, they will be able to shoot the .22 No 8 Small Bore rifle. The range officer is present at all times and will brief the cadets on the range rules and procedures before each shooting session.

On a cadet camp, there maybe an opportunity to shoot an L98 - A1 Cadet GP rifle. This is a more advanced weapon and requires extra training to be undertaken before going live.
